What is the JPYWO?

The Jackson Purchase Youth Wind Orchestra (JPYWO) is a brand new, auditioned honor ensemble for advanced high school wind and percussion musicians from:

  • Western Kentucky
  • West Tennessee
  • Southern Illinois
  • Eastern Missouri

Hosted by the 做厙輦⑹app Bands, JPYWO is a supplemental opportunity designed to further challenge students with advanced repertoire, exceptional instruction, and inspiring musical experiences.

A Premier Experience

In this inaugural season, students will perform challenging and rewarding music alongside peers from across the region. As a special highlight, the ensemble will premiere a brand new work composed by John Fannin, written specifically for the Jackson Purchase Youth Wind Orchestras debut concert.

About the Program

Registration to audition is now open! 

There is no fee to register for the audition. Tuition will only be charged to members selected from the audition process!

Please review the timeline below - all deadlines will be strictly enforced:

Registration Window: 

Now until October 10th at 11:59PM

Once you register to audition, you will receive an email with more detailed audition instructions, upload links, and deadlines. All of the audition material comes from the same excerpts as the Kentucky All-State Band audition materials. 

Audition Window: 

Video auditions will be accepted until November 14th at 11:59PM

Results: 

Results will be posted by 6:00PM on Friday November 21, 2025 and all students will be notified by email of their status: Accepted, Alternate, or Not Accepted

Lock in your spot: 

All accepted students will have until 6:00PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 to pay a $50.00 deposit and lock in their position for the 2026 JPYWO.

Tuition: $175

This fee covers:
    • Instruction from MSU faculty and guest educators
    • Sectional and full ensemble rehearsals
    • Sheet music
    • Guest artists
    • Composer residency and commissioning fee for the new work
    • General administrative support
All credit card payments over $150 are subject to a $15 transaction fee. However, card payments are recommended if you are paying your full amount because they are the only method of payment eligible for a partial refund if you withdraw from camp (including unforeseen circumstances like injuries, illness, emergency, etc). Checks, WebChecks, and cash payments are non-refundable.

World Premiere Performance - Composer John Fannin, has agreed to write a brand new piece that the JPYWO will premiere at our first concert in May 2026. 

will join the JPYWO in our final weekend to share some thoughts and help us maximize his music that we will be performing in our first concert. Tyler will spend the day rehearsing with the group, providing feedback, and adding to the students' experience!

Tyler S. Grant is an internationally recognized composer, arranger, conductor, and clinician of music for concert bands, orchestras, and chamber ensembles of all levels. His music is featured regularly in performances by both region and all state honor ensembles and is also featured annually on Editors or Publishers Choice Repertoire Lists around the world. His work, Panoramic Fanfare, was a winner of the Dallas Wind Symphonys 2014 Call for Fanfares Competition. Panoramic Fanfare has since been performed by collegiate and professional ensembles throughout North America.

Since 2010, Tyler has regularly accepted commissions for new works and produced new publications for bands and orchestras each year. He credits his mentor Brian Balmages as pivotal to his success as a composer.  Notable performance venues of his works include The Midwest Clinic, Carnegie Hall, Music for Alls National Concert Band Festival, the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, Bands of America Grand Nationals, and numerous state-wide, national, and international music conferences and conventions. 

In addition to composing and arranging, Tyler enjoys conducting and clinic engagements with ensembles throughout the United States. He has served as a clinician with over 150 school instrumental music programs and honor groups across more than 25 states. Tyler was a contributing author for Alfred Music Publishing Companys Sound Innovations: Ensemble Development series and has contributed interviews to numerous podcasts and articles, including School Band & Orchestra Magazine and The Instrumentalist. Notable conducting venues include The Midwest Clinic and all-state bands in Nebraska, Oregon, Alabama, Louisiana, South Dakota, and North Dakota.

Tyler is a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he earned a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education and studied conducting with Professor Randall Coleman. Before becoming a full-time composer and arranger, Tyler served as the Director of Bands at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School from 2019-2023. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and maintains an active composing and conducting schedule. His published works are available through The FJH Music Company, Inc., Alfred/MakeMusic Publications, and Tyler S. Grant Music Works, LLC.
